5 Funny April Fools Pranks for Lifeguards and Aquatics Staff

April Fools happens the same day every year and yet each year there are so many people who fall for the tricks.

Below are some famous marketing campaigns from recent years by top brands:

  • Petco told customers they can now get makeovers to resemble their pets.

  • McDonald’s shared a Tweet showing new sauce packets with their milkshake flavors

  • Google “introduced” Google Wind - Giant windmills that could prevent bad weather (rain)

But April Fools is an opportunity for anyone to pull a fast one on their friends, family, or better yet, their coworkers!

So here are some ideas that you can use in your aquatics facility to participate in the April Fools fun!

Caramel Apples (…Onions)

No matter what time of day it is or how hungry you are, a caramel apple always sounds delicious. Few will resist it but when they bite into this batch, they’ll discover a very different, less desirable, flavor - ONIONS.

Here’s a simple recipe for caramel apples. Simply swap out the apple for onions, and you’re all set.

Chewbacca Contest

Given that the Star Wars series has been a blockbuster hit since the 1970s, people of all ages should get this reference.

Post a flyer in the break room or somewhere that all your staff will enter promoting a “contest” for the best impersonation of the Star Wars character, Chewbacca. Have them leave their recording on a phone that you can let go to voicemail.

On April 2nd, you can play all of the recordings for the staff and get in a good laugh as a team.

Give Your Fridge-Food Eyes

Ever feel like the food in the fridge is looking back at you? Well, why not just give it a life of it’s own in a way that will surely surprise any staff member who opens the fridge door?

These tiny googly eyes turn any object instantly into a food-human hybrid. The only thing they’ll be missing is a name!

Warning, eating food from the fridge may never be the same 🤣.

New Hat Rule

New rules, regulations, and training methodologies are continuously being introduced into aquatics facilities. And this April 1st is when you’ll “introduce” the newest measure to help lifeguards best perform their duties - The Hero Hat.

This giant summer hat is simply intended to keep the sun off of the wearer during the hot summer. But you are going to introduce it as The Hero Hat, which has two important qualities.

  1. It is easy to remove and handle, making it more functional than a traditional tube.

  2. It’s a floatation device.

  3. It can be thrown like a disc and since most people are familiar with how to throw a frisbee, it is easier to learn how to use it than a tube.

Veggie “Donut “ Box

Who doesn’t love donuts? Especially early in the morning or after a long shift.

And what’s the worst thing that can happen to someone who’s excited to eat a donut? It’s discovering that the box is filled not with delicious donuts, but heart-healthy vegetables!

And don’t worry, these won’t go to waste. Someone will surely want to take them home to pull the prank on someone else!

Good luck and happy pranking!
