New in DigiQuatics: Pool Chemical Calculator
Navigating the waters of swimming pool chemicals can be a daunting task, especially for the inexperienced pool manager. There’s so many different types of pool chemicals available on the market and they all do different things to adjust pool chemistry. Not only are there many different types of pool chemicals, all of them have different dosages required to adjust different water chemistry levels based on the pool volume.
Today, we’ve added a pool chemical calculator that will automatically calculate how much of your various pool chemicals to add to the water to reach the desired water chemistry. Here’s how it works.
First, head over to the Chemical Records section of the Settings page.
Under Chemical Records you will see a new section called Pool Chemistry Recommendations.
For each of your swimming pools you will need to select the various pool chemicals that you use to treat each water chemistry level. To start entering this information, click the Edit Settings link. Here are the current pool chemicals available in the DigiQuatics pool chemical calculator:
To increase pool chlorine:
Chlorine Gas
Calcium Hypochlorite (67%)
Sodium Hypochlorite (12%)
Lithium Hypochlorite
Dichlor (62%)
Dichlor (56%)
Trichlor
To increase pool alkalinity:
Sodium Bicarbonate

Note: If a pool chemical you use does not appear on this list please contact us so we can add it for you.
You will also need to add the pool volume (gallons) so that we can calculate the correct dosage for each of your swimming pools.
Once you are done entering that your pool volume and pool chemicals, you should see a summary that shows all of your swimming pools information to calculate pool chemical dosages later on.
How to use the pool chemical calculator
To get the pool chemical dosage recommendations, you need to submit a new chemical record so we can automatically analyze and suggest how to adjust your water chemistry to keep it within ideal ranges and balanced. We will only give you recommendations if your water chemistry is outside of an ideal range (as indicated on the chemical record’s page).
The DigiQuatics Pool Chemical Calculator gives you suggestions on how to increase the water chemistry level by a given amount, usually in parts per million (ppm). For example, “To increase free chlorine by 1 ppm, add 4.13 qts of Sodium Hypochlorite (12%).” Don’t worry, based on the pool chemical that you select, we automatically provide the units based on whether the pool chemical is dry or in liquid form. Once the dosage amount goes over a certain amount, we automatically convert the dosage to an amount in units that make more sense to measure in. For example, if it is recommended that you add 90.6 fluid ounces (fl. oz.) of Sodium Hypochlorite (12%) we will convert that to 2.83 quarts (qts) so it is easier to measure.

You should always consult the manufacturer’s instructions when calculating pool chemicals and only qualified individuals should make any adjustments to water chemistry. Failure to do so may result in serious harm to equipment and, most importantly, swimmers.
